There are several
replacement grill options out there for the Mustangs. Replacing the
grill serves 2 purposes. It will make washing and drying the car
much easier that dealing with honey comb grill, and it will also set your
car apart from the others. Replacing
the grill is relatively easy with a little patience involved. The
black plastic panel that covers the radiator needs to be removed.
There are a couple of plastic Philips head screw that have an expansion
anchor holding the shroud on. Remove these and put them in a safe
place. There is also 2 of these on the bumper fascia arms that
extend up and border the gill and separate the grill area from the
headlights. Remove these 2 as well, we will need to flex the bumper fascia
forward during the install.
Moving
the headlights off to the side will help tremendously as well. They
do not have to be removed completely but you can if you so desire.
There are two black tabs at the top and back of the headlights.
Pulling these two tabs vertically will release the headlight assembly and
you can swivel them both off to the side.
There
are a couple of bolts that hold the grill to the bottom of the bumper fascia.
Flexing the fascia forward will allow you to access these from behind the
grill. They are held to the fascia via quick bolts and might be a
tad rusty. You will not need these to remount your new Billet
grill. Leave them with your stock grill incase you want to return to
a stock mode at any time. There
are two posts at the bottom of the stock grill that mate with 2 hole in
the bumper fascia. There are similar pegs on the Billet grill.
Slip these into place first and then rotate the grill back towards the radiator
and replace the plastic Philips screws with the new bolts supplied with
your new grill.
Replace
the two plastic Philips head mounting screw on the bumper fascia as well
as moving you headlights back into position. Replace the two arms
that hold each headlight in place and push them down solid.
The
only thing left now is to replace the plastic radiator cover with the
remaining plastic screws, close the hood and step back and admire your
work.
